I’m Meredith (she/her).
I’m an artist, licensed art therapist, and art appreciator.
I was born, raised, and currently reside in Brooklyn, NY.
Growing up, I was known as the girl that was always drawing, wherever and whenever.
Like most creatives, my drive to create started to evolve as I moved into adulthood, and I became more concerned with the outcome of art-making, and less with the joy of creating.
Also like many creatives, I judged myself harshly, and saw the value of my art productions as a reflection of my self-worth.
After receiving a BFA in Visual Arts Studies, the only career trajectory that made sense for me was to teach art in order to support my own art practice.
I spent my first 5 years after college teaching art to children, adolescents, and adults in various capacities. It was in this role that I began to reframe my understanding of the creative process.
I began to observe the impact of creative expression and the multitude of ways that these processes can support identity development, social-emotional growth, and overall well-being.
My teaching approach became more open-ended. By simply introducing different materials and artistic processes to people in a safe, supportive and contained environment - the natural flow of creativity had more room to flourish.
Naturally, all this led me to the field of Art Therapy.
